Abortion rights supporters hold rally in San Jose – NBC Bay Area
People gathered for a march for reproductive rights near San Jose City Hall on Saturday and to share shared personal stories. Other abortion rights supporters spoke about the importance of taking action, keeping up the pressure and making sure their voices are heard.
At noon, abortion rights supporters in San Jose gathered outside City Hall, carried signs and spoke out against the historic Supreme Court ruling.
It was led by three students who came together with a message.
“As soon as I saw the cancellation of Roe v. Wade, I knew something had to be done,” said San Jose resident Kiara Dixon.
“Our protest today is for reproductive and abortion rights, solidarity. We live in California, so obviously our rights are protected, but right now, we stand in solidarity,” said Taylor Hall, a San resident. Joseph.
Then the protesters who joined the march for reproductive rights gathered and marched towards Saint James Park. They talked about action, and NBC Bay Area asked about action in Washington on Saturday and President Joe Biden signed an executive order to improve access to abortion pills and protective actions for medical care. emergency and family planning, among others.
“I don’t feel completely confident about it. I just feel like it’s going to take a lot more than an executive order like it’s war we have to be on the streets protesting and things aren’t going to change just by doing an executive order,” said Elizabeth Brathwaite of San Ramon.
“I would like to see a sort of legislative bill, a legislative bill passed in Congress, but unfortunately we have the filibuster right now,” said San Jose resident Michael Tapia.
Meanwhile, in places like Sacramento, abortion rights supporters also rallied on Saturday. On the other side, in Chicago, opponents of the right to abortion took part in a rally.
