John ‘Little Zion’ Doe identified as San Jose boy, police search for mother
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Metropolitan Police have identified John “Little Zion” Doe as Liam Husted, 7, of San Jose. He was found off SR 160 near the Mountain Springs trailhead on May 28.
Metro Homicide Lt. Ray Spencer says they are looking for the child’s mother, Samantha Moreno Rodriguez.
On Friday evening, a sergeant from the San Jose Police Department contacted Spencer, saying they had a missing child who they believed could be the boy. The photos sent by the SJPD confirmed this.
A Metro detective traveled to San Jose on Saturday morning and obtained a pillow and clothes that belonged to Liam. Lab tests in Las Vegas confirmed the DNA and the objects belonged to the boy’s.
Liam was last seen in San Jose on May 24. According to police, a friend of Rodriguez’s family said she had not seen Rodriguez or Liam for more than two weeks. The friend had seen the media coverage of John “Little Zion” Doe and thought the composite sketch looked like Liam. Spencer says she surrendered to San Jose Police, which sparked the ensuing investigation.
Rodriguez and Liam reportedly left California on May 24 in a dark blue 2007 Dodge Caliber, license plate 6WLH211. They were next in the Laguna Beach area on May 26, followed by Victorville, Calif.
On May 29, just a day after Liam’s body was found, police said the vehicle was traveling on I-70 near Grand Junction, Colorado. Rodriguez was last seen in a Denver-area hotel room on May 31, where they say she checked in on her own.
Due to the ongoing investigation, Metro declined to provide more information on the boy’s death.
