Experts say it depends on your vaccination status.
“I’m smiling under the mask,” said Sally Miguel.
Sally and Eric Miguel from Sacramento are spending a Memorial Day weekend in San Francisco. This is my first trip abroad in over a year.
Eric Miguel said, “Just get out there and you will feel liberated.”
For many of us, Memorial Day weekends are the first vacation in a long time that feels like a vacation.

The number of people taking the plunge and exiting is increasing.
“More and more people are booking at our hotel on Memorial Day this weekend,” said Kevin Carroll, president and CEO of the San Francisco Hotel Council.
Carroll says tourists are coming back slowly.
“When we come to a hotel, we don’t just help the hotel, the city, the employees and the restaurants around the hotel,” Carroll explains.
But for some, staying in a hotel is a big step forward out of the pandemic, but some are hesitant. However, experts say that in most cases the check-in is secure.

“My advice is to do this if you are fully vaccinated,” said Dr. George Rutherford, professor of epidemiology at the University of California, San Francisco.
However, Rutherford is giving this travel warning to unvaccinated people because COVID is still here.
“If you are not vaccinated there are all kinds of things you have to watch out for.
Guests of the newly opened Palace Hotel will be able to watch a video of the hotel’s cleaning procedures, with everything from equipment and light switches to the remote control of the sanitized TV. The city’s health service now imposes the same procedure for all hotels.
“We feel comfortable,” added Eric Miguel.
And being comfortable is the first step in getting back to it.
