Woman killed in suspected DUI crash in Cupertino late at night
CUPERTINO (CBS SF / BCN) – A woman has been killed and a suspected drunk driver with two previous DUI convictions in custody after a horrific 280 Friday night crash in Cupertino, authorities said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to reports of an accident after 11 p.m. on Interstate 280 northbound south of Wolfe Road.

Officers on arrival discovered that two cars were not on the road and that one of them, a Nissan Ultima, had struck a tree.
An Ultima passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released. A man driving the Ultima was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities could not find anyone inside the other car, a Nissan Sentra that had damage to the front. About an hour later, the driver was nearby.
He was medically cleared, then arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and sentenced to Santa Clara County jail.
The CHP said the suspect had two previous DUI convictions.

The accident and investigation closed the Wolfe Road exit lane from the freeway for about four hours.
